Mary Anne McFarlane has spent a career in probation, including work in the USA on exchange and in Turkey, heading up a EU project. She gained a MPhil on prison probation work, while at HMP Parkhurst. She has also worked on probation legislation at the Home Office and briefly with HMIP. She was Chief Officer for Devon and Cornwall until 2010. She was a member of the CEP Board in Europe, leading work on probation values and principles. Since 2010 she has worked as an international Criminal Justice consultant in Turkey, Croatia, Jordan, Palestine, Romania and Kazakhstan and has edited a book with Professor Rob Canton on cross cultural working. She has trained as a community developer and has initiated several local projects, including a new skate park and a social and environmental action group. She currently runs a befriending scheme, is chair of CASS+, a court-based community advice service, and sings in many groups and choirs. She has two grown children, an American husband and a labrador puppy.
