The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the criminal justice system - a progress report

The Joint HMI report on the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic on the criminal justice system should not surprise us. Calling for a whole system plan to avoid the risks of uneven recovery across the system is radical and we would welcome this. The report points clearly to the ongoing workforce problems in probation recognising the double impact of Covid 19 and unification. Also pay we would suggest! Recognising these pressures and much hard work the report focusses on slow return of face-to-face meetings, backlogs in accredited programmes and unpaid work, and serious concerns about resettlement planning.
