Government Prisons Strategy White Paper

Released on 7th December this white paper rehearses many previous commitments and initiatives - and includes several consultation questions. Readers are encouraged to respond to these to re-enforce a positive rehabilitative culture in the prisons and for release arrangements for all prisoners. We will make the case that more prisons and tougher regimes are not necessary, but that strategies to reduce overall numbers are required, also to redress the disproportionate numbers of black and minority ethnic people in prison and reports of their disproportionately poor experiences of rehabilitation.
