PRINCIPAL SPEAKER
Prof Gwen Robinson, University of SheffieldThinking about ‘confidence’ in probation
The need to build and/or maintain confidence in probation is a generally accepted ‘good’ that has featured in discourse around probation for decades. More recently, though, the Government consultation Strengthening Probation, Building Confidence has brought added emphasis to this perennial issue (Ministry of Justice 2018, 2019). In this webinar Gwen Robinson will present some findings from an ongoing research project which is examining the unification of probation services from a variety of perspectives. Focusing on interviews conducted with senior probation leaders a year after unification, Gwen will focus on the question of whose confidence matters, and consider some of the challenges associated with (re-) building confidence in a period of major transition.
