The Probation Institute, in partnership with the Alliance for Useful Evidence (A4UE), will be hosting a Centre of Excellence workshop in London on 10th December.
Throughout 2015 the Probation Institute will be developing as an independent, credible and recognised Centre of Excellence for probation and community justice. By disseminating research on the effectiveness of practice, and facilitating a continuous learning environment among practitioners, the Probation Institute aims to influence how evidence can better inform professional practice and policy.
The event is being supported by the A4UE, an open access network of individuals from across government, charities, universities, business and local authorities, championing the use of evidence in social policy and practice. More information about A4UE can be found on their website at http://www.alliance4usefulevidence.org/
Key themes which will be explored at the event will include:
- How to promote the use of evidence to shape professional practice and policy
(the morning session will be led by Professor Jonathan Shepherd, Cardiff University, who will draw on parallels from how evidence has informed professional practice in health)
- Encouraging the involvement of practitioners in evaluating their work
(the event will launch the Sir Graham Smith Award 2015, and will also feature practice-led research from Griffins Society Award winners)
- Multi-disciplinary/cross-sectoral studies and research approaches into community justice and rehabilitation
(following a call for papers, the event will showcase a selection of recent evaluations from across the country which have taken a cross-sectoral or multi-disciplinary research approach)
If you are interested in attending the workshop and are a Probation Institute member, please get in contact with us at email@example.com and we will send through information on how to register. Please note that due to venue capacity restrictions and already very strong demand, delegate places are limited and we would encourage you to apply if interested in attending ASAP.
