Paul is a qualified Solicitor Advocate and accredited mediator with a career working in criminal justice and local government sectors since 1979. Following a period as secretary and legal adviser to the Essex Probation Board he was appointed to serve the London Probation Board in 2006. He worked to a succession of Chiefs and Chairs until leaving the London Community Rehabilitation Company in 2015. In 2008 Paul played a key part in shaping the corporate design of the Probation Chiefs Association and was company secretary for the life of the PCA. He played a similar role in the development of the Probation Institute for which he strongly advocated as Director of Governance with the London Probation Trust. For a while he was a specialist adviser to the Probation Association.
During his time in London, Paul was actively involved in service user related projects providing legal and governance advice. Experience in the use of technical legal skills to find solutions to organisational challenges has marked him out. He was a strong supporter of the development of a staff mutual by London Probation Interventions staff during Transforming Rehabilitation and is now working for RISE Mutual Community Interest Company. Paul has provided key legal advice at all the significant milestones that have taken place in probation over the last ten years. During the past year he has provided company secretary and legal services to the DLNR Community Rehabilitation Company.
